Theory course

Introduction

Our theory course is your ally to assimilate the theoretical content of the license and allow you to be confident on the day of your exam. We strongly recommend this course if you wish to take the A or B category license and the A1 or B1 subcategories. This course lasts 6 hours, spread over 2 or 4 days depending on your preferences and availability.

Goal

The goal of this course is to give you all the key-notions regarding traffic rules and signs and provide you with tips on how to prepare for the exam.

CONTENT

The concepts covered range from traffic signs and road markings to the rules of driving a vehicle and your obligations as a road user. You will also have the opportunity to practice on situations represented by photos as on the exam.

Along with your theory course, an application containing all the concepts you need to know as well as multiple choice questions to practice for the exam is offered to you and will allow you to practice anywhere on your mobile.

THEORY EXAM

To take the theory test, you must first register with the Office Cantonal des Véhicules of the Canton of Geneva. You must bring your vision test, the official application form for a student’s permit, as well as a passport photo to the Office des Autos to choose your test date.

The theory test lasts 45 minutes and consists of 50 multiple choice questions covering the following topics

  • Right of way rules
  • Traffic signs and signals
  • Photo-based situations

There are 3 possible answers for each question. You may give up to 2 answers per question, and one answer only for traffic signs.

In order to pass the test, you must not exceed a maximum of -15 points. Each wrong or unchecked answer will result in a loss of 1 point.

You will know the result of your exam at the end of it. The duration for the delivery of the certificate is between 2 and 3 days maximum.

CONDITIONS

To book your exam date, you first need to take your first aid course, do an eye test at one of the certified opticians, and fill in the official registration form (provisional student license form). You need to bring these documents along with a passport-sized photo to the OCV and you will then be able to pick your exam date.
